TRANSPORTATION

from Paris to REIMS and Épernay

Our cycling trip starts in Épernay on Saturday, July 23, in the afternoon. (Area map below.)  Some of us will be spending Friday night in Paris, and some in Reims, which is not far from Épernay.  Those of us staying in Paris will take the train to the area on Saturday morning at a few minutes before 8:00.  The train takes about an hour.

OUR TRAIN FROM PARIS TO REIMS:

  • Tickets can be purchased in advance at http://en.voyages-sncf.com/en/ Tickets should also be available at the station (next to our hotel) on Friday and Saturday morning, but buying in advance seems wise.

  • We are on TGV train number 2709, departing Gare de l'Est at 7:58am and arriving in Reims at 8:44am.

  • Per our e-mails, the IBIS hotel across the plaza from the train station has agreed to store our bags while we visit the city.

IN CASE you miss the 7:58am train, there are others at the following times:

  • TGV train departing Gare de l'Est at 9:28am and arriving in Reims at 10:14am.

  • TGV train departing Gare de l'Est at 1:08pm and arriving in Reims at 1:54pm

SHUTTLE BUS FROM REIMS TO Épernay

The tour operator's microbuses (Agil taxi-buses) will pick all of us up at the Reims train station courtyard ("Cour de la Gare") at 3:30pm, and we'll arrive at the barge in Épernay at 4:30-5:00pm.  The

OTHER ALTERNATIVES (WHICH WE'VE OPTED AGAINST) ARE AS FOLLOWS (in which case we'll have to notify the tour operator so the bus can change plans):

1) Take the TGV to the TGV station that's about 8km outside Reims (called Champagne-Ardennes).

  • TGV train departing Gare de l'Est at 10:29am and arriving Champagne-Ardennesat 11:10am

  • TGV train departing Gare de l'est at 2:28pm and arriving Champagne-Ardennesat 3:11pm

The tour operator will pick us up at Champagne-Ardennes TGV station at 4:00pm, and we'll arrive at the barge in Épernay at about 5:00pm.

2) Take the TGV to the TGV station near Épernay

  • TER train departing Gare de l'Est at 10:36am and arriving Épernay at 11:49am

  • TER train departing Gare de l'Est at 13:36pm and arriving Épernay at 1:50pm

The train station in Épernay looks to be pretty near the Marne River, but we'll have to ask the tour operator if there will be passenger pickups there.
