Champagne Tour

July 23:  Épernay to Paris

During this brand new bike and boat tour in France, you will pedal through the beautiful Marne River valley and the world famous Champagne region. Along the way, you will have plenty of opportunities to sip some bubbly and taste the delicious world famous Brie cheese.

In 2015, UNESCO granted the Champagne area world heritage status! The vineyards, wine cellars, and sale houses where the grapes are grown, stored, and produced are all culturally significant. In fact, there are many sparkling wines but only the wine produced in this region of France with its chalky soil and perfect climatic conditions can be called Champagne.

The tour begins in Paris, the capital of France and one of Europe’s most beautiful and beloved cities. Discover the “City of Light” and enjoy many highlights during a full day guided excursion. After leaving Paris, you will visit the city of Meaux, well known for its Brie cheeses. The barge will also spend a night in Château-Thierry, a scene of a major battle in World War I.

The route then leads through vineyards on the rolling banks of the Marne river and past small champagne producers, who will be proud to let you taste their best Champagne wines. The tour ends in the city of Epernay, the real capital of the Champagne region, where a visit to one of the immense champagne cellars is on the agenda.

The region prides itself on its historical heritage as well, and for history buffs, a highlight will be the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial in France.

This is a moderate level tour that is at times challenging with hilly terrain and varied country roads. It is for experienced bikers in good physical condition.
